Jamie Hopkins -

I grew up in Deep River, ON, where I spent my childhood falling in love with the outdoors, being on the river, and everything else in my community. I am a current student in the Child and Youth Care program at Cambrian College, where I also work with the Student Council and am a member of a number of varsity teams. I am passionate about student advocacy and giving new perspectives to accessibility, wellness, and financial hardships faced across the province. When I’m not competing myself, I’m an avid cross-country ski and soccer coach, as well as a referee, mentor, and competition facilitator.

In much of the work I do – whether it be coaching, student advocacy, child and youth work, or anything else – I follow the philosophy of my late cross-country ski coach: if I can do my job in such a way that the youth I work with are inspired to do my job in turn, then I’ve done my job right. I was incredibly fortunate growing up to have been given so many opportunities to both contribute to my community and to have benefited from those who saw the importance of youth engagement. Seeing the positive impact of that early community contribution transfer into my current initiatives and goals has given me a strong passion to give back to my community by empowering youth to make a difference. Though I am still new to Sudbury, I am excited to see the incredible impact the youth can make in this community that has already given me so many new opportunities. Our youth are ready to take on the world in their own unique ways, so long as we open the door for them to grow.
